Book vs. Film

So, I'm reading Bram Stoker's Dracula right now.

I remember watching the 1992 film about 100 a few times since it came out. Mainly because Gary Oldman is so incredibly hot in it because the storyline is so different from all the other Dracula/Nosferatu films I've ever laid eyes on. No long capes or weird hair or " I vill suck your blood". Just a good, old-fashioned love story spanning centuries and continents. With a bit of truth in it, considering Vlad Tepes actually existed in 13th century Romania.

So, back to the actual book.

There's no love story. Dracula doesn't look like Gary Oldman. Mina isn't your typical Victorian woman. Lucy isn't a promiscous tart and Jonathan Harker ain't no Keanu Reeves with a really hilarious British accent. Oh no. This is much more dark and scary - what nightmares are made of, really, because we have no idea what's really going on until oh, page 150 when they realise that poor Lucy isn't really dead. She's not alive either, but she isn't dead, and she's abducting small children in the night and drinking their blood. So yes, kinda creepy..

Memories...

I haz them!

I've been keeping a reading log since 1999 of all the books I've read to date. I started making it around the time my Grandmother passed away and I just sort of stuck with it. That means there are books in my log that I haven't finished, and I finished one of those today! Started reading it in 2000 and finally finished it 12 years later. Amazing stuff. I even had the bookmark left in it where I stopped a decade ago. Yeah, reading logs rock!

I think I'm gonna tackle Bram Stoker's Dracula next. Started reading that one in 2001 and haven't finished it yet. I'm starting to love this book challenge! Weeee!

Freezing in February

I seriously thought we wouldn't have to face another winter like the two past winters. With several feet of snow, freezing temperatures and a shitload of coats, thermal underwear and cars that wouldn't start.

Yes.

I was wrong.

On Thursday, the snow started falling and it just would not stop. Footprints disappeared 20 minutes after they were made. It was ridiculous! Really! When I was going home from work that day, we had to be three people digging out my car. Then when I got home, I had to spend two hours digging myself into my house! I am not kidding when I say I had snow up to my kneecaps. Okay, so I'm not the tallest person on the planet Earth, but that's at least 50-60 centimeters. I am not amused. I hate to be cold.

On the positive side, I've had the time indoors to do some knitting and reading. Finished three projects in two days and one book. The only thing that would make me even happier would be a way to knit and read at the same time! *lol*

Saturdays..

I just realised I've read the same amount of books in two weeks this year as I read all of last year. Six books. That's kind of sad for me, since I used to read much much more than that. I've been keeping a log of every book I read for the past 13 years, beginning in 1999, and the most books I've read in a year is 92. That's about 2 books a week!

I'm going to see if I can top that this year :)

Food..

.. for thought? Yeah, fell of the weightloss wagon yesterday - downed two slices of cake, one cinnamon bun and an almond cookie... today I've had chocolate... lots of chocolate. I blame stress and a crooked doxie. My old, crooked little doxie, who just had her first taste of back trouble. She's on Prednisone now to get the swelling and inflammation down, and after I helped her up on the couch, she's not looking so sad and pathetic :)

Another day, another dollar

Yeah, I'm pretty fed up right now. With just about everything.

I'm fed up with my insomnia

I'm fed up with my taking things far too personal

I'm fed up with doing things right the moment I'm doing it, then being told that it's wrong

I'm fed up with people in general

I'm fed up with some people in particular

See? Fed up with just about everything. Sometimes I wish I could lock myself into an office or an archive somewhere void of people to interact with and just do my "thang". Not sure I'd want to do it forever, but a little while wouldn't hurt. A couple of weeks or a month or so. I'd be perfectly happy puttering around with files or books or yarns. I'd be a master at taking inventory, I think. I'm a bit OCD when it comes to that...

Right now what keeps me going is the knowledge that I'll be on the recieving end of a huge paycheck at the end of the month. Seriously. Right now, I'm doing my job for the money. Not that I want to help people. Feels awful saying that, but right now it's the god-honest truth.

Bah, humbug.

Random...

Yeah, random update of challenge list :) Anything you can't make out are books translated to my native Swedish.

Busy day!

Started day by making 4 jars of lingonberry jam, continued by accidentally dunking right hand into pot of boiling water (no worries - 15 minutes' immersion in ice cold water and hours worth of smearing aloe vera gel on the burn did the trick), and finished by making 5 jars of blueberry/blackberry jam. I've been so domestic today that it hurts. Literally. Because dipping hand in boiling water is not recommended, even if you know what to do to avoid any serious injury.

Oddly enough, between these random attacks of domesticity, I have also managed to finish reading my second book of 2012, which means it's time for a Book Challenge update!

Sensing a trend here? Yeah, I have one more book in the series at home, but I might do something stupid and buy some more, even if it adds to the total number of books I have to plow through this year. Because they really are that good :P
